Educational Philosophy

Art is often referred to as a form of exploration. Creative acts stem from a desire to understand how the world works and to envision the possibilities within it. Successful art encourages critical thinking by presenting new ideas, raising questions, and promoting dialogue. In this way, art and learning are bound to one another.

As an artist and an educator, I aim to teach students that art is as much about observing, thinking and communicating as it is about creating. Art instruction is most effective when lessons are open enough to allow students to tap into their personal interests yet focused enough to provide clear objectives. This balance fosters an environment that enables students to begin identifying their own goals and working independently toward achieving them. I consider myself successful when I see my students take ownership of their learning. It has been extremely rewarding to see students realize their own capabilities and use art to express themselves and engage in life long learning.
